WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has formally expressed its solidarity with the United States following the recent security incident in Washington, D.C., in which the country’s top leadership was briefly placed in danger.

In an official statement released Thursday, the government said it was relieved that the national leadership of the United States remained unharmed and reaffirmed Curaçao’s commitment to democratic institutions, the rule of law and peaceful civic life.

The statement follows the security breach at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, where an armed suspect bypassed security and caused a major incident before being taken into custody. U.S. authorities confirmed that President Donald Trump and other senior officials were safely evacuated and unharmed.

In its response, the Curaçao government emphasized that political violence has no place in democratic societies and stressed the importance of protecting institutions that uphold democracy and public order.

“Our country remains steadfast in its dedication to dialogue, stability and responsible international engagement,” the government said.

The government also confirmed that an official letter of solidarity has been sent directly to the President of the United States.

The move reflects Curaçao’s longstanding relationship with the United States, one of the island’s key international partners in areas such as tourism, trade, security cooperation and regional stability.

The incident in Washington has drawn reactions from governments around the world, many of which condemned the violence and voiced support for democratic processes and peaceful political dialogue.
