WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government has officially denied any plans for the establishment of a new Curaçaoan airline, addressing recent speculations surrounding 'Jet Curaçao' and the potential acquisition of three Airbus 319 aircraft aimed at bolstering economic growth. Minister Ruisandro Cijntje clarified that the government is not currently pursuing any initiatives or projects in this direction.
The minister's statement comes in response to earlier comments in which he expressed a positive outlook on the prospect of having a local airline, particularly in the wake of KLM's announcement of reduced flights to Curaçao. Cijntje, however, underscored that while he sees the potential benefits, there is no active progress on such a venture.
Key figures in the Curaçaoan aviation and tourism sectors, including Peter Steinmetz, director of the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA), and Muryad de Bruin, director of the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), have affirmed their lack of awareness regarding these developments. Steinmetz noted that no permit has been sought for a new airline, and De Bruin confirmed that the CTB has no information about the purported emergence of 'Jet Curaçao.'
