WILLEMSTAD - The transition from the old to the new year in Curaçao was notably low-key this year. Only nine individuals were apprehended on December 31 and January 1 for various reasons, such as driving under the influence, assault, and vandalism. There were five accidents resulting in injuries, leading to five individuals being hospitalized less than the average during other periods throughout the year.
Last month, the police announced a significant year-end operation to maintain order on the streets. The fire department responded to four minor trash fires, with no significant blazes reported during the New Year's transition. The Emergency Department of the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) attended to five individuals with firework-related injuries. Fortunately, none of them required prolonged hospitalization, which the hospital considers a positive outcome.
