WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has been drawn into Group A of the top division of the Concacaf Nations League, following the official draw held Tuesday evening in Miami.
The Blue Wave will face Costa Rica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic in the group stage of the regional competition.
Curaçao will play four matches during the September and October international windows, with two games scheduled at home and two away.
The tournament carries major importance because it also serves as qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup. If Curaçao finishes among the top two teams in the group, the national team will advance to the quarterfinals in November, where regional football powerhouses such as Mexico, the United States and Canada could await.
However, a difficult campaign could have serious consequences. Teams finishing in fifth or sixth place in the group will be relegated to Division B of the Concacaf Nations League.
The first group matches will take place between late September and early October this year.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over who will lead Curaçao during the upcoming Nations League campaign. The contract of experienced Dutch coach Dick Advocaat expires at the end of this month. Earlier reports indicated that Advocaat is open to continuing his role with the national team, but an official announcement is expected soon.
For Curaçao, the Nations League represents another important step after the island's historic participation at the FIFA World Cup. The team will now look to secure qualification for another major Concacaf tournament and continue building its reputation on the international stage.
