Curaçao delays decision on fuel price adjustment, water rates to rise May 1

Main News, Local, | By Correspondent April 29, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government has postponed a decision on a possible fuel price adjustment, meaning gasoline and diesel prices will remain unchanged until at least May 5.

The announcement means motorists on the island can continue filling up at the current rates for the time being, while the government reviews whether new fuel prices will be introduced afterward.

Officials said a final decision on fuel prices is expected to be announced following the government’s press conference scheduled for Friday, April 30.

It remains unclear whether prices will go up, go down or remain unchanged after the temporary extension.

Fuel prices on Curaçao are reviewed periodically and are influenced by international oil market movements, shipping costs and import-related expenses.

The delay gives consumers temporary certainty at a time when global energy markets remain volatile.

While fuel prices are staying the same for now, the government has confirmed adjustments to utility rates effective May 1.

According to the new tariff structure, electricity rates will remain unchanged, providing some stability for households and businesses.

Water rates, however, will increase by 5 cents.

The government said the utility adjustment forms part of the regular review process for public utility tariffs, which are periodically revised based on operational and supply costs.

The decision means consumers will soon face slightly higher water bills, even as electricity prices remain stable.

For households already dealing with rising living costs, the fuel decision and utility adjustments are likely to remain closely watched in the coming days.

More clarity on fuel pricing is expected after Friday’s official government update.
