Consternation about Martha's letter regarding GIK as preferred bidder

Main news | By Correspondent February 24, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - A day after lawyer and former politician Rudsel Martha wrote a letter that Grupo Internashonal Kòrsou (GIK) is the number two candidate to operate the refinery, political consternation in Willemstad is great.

It is the third time that GIK is trying to become the preferred bidder in the takeover process of the refinery in Curaçao.

On his Facebook page, Minister Charles Cooper reacts as if stung by a wasp to Martha's letter. He calls the statements of the former politician "a blatant lie" and points to the old saying: “Den Kuaresma Diabelnan ta lòs”, the devil shows himself in Lent after carnival.

Cooper believes that Martha is smearing the name of the Curaçao government, specifically that of the prime minister and himself. Martha suggests in his letter that both politicians influenced the search for a preferred bidder.

It is striking that Martha is the architect of the Pisas cabinet after the elections of March 2021, in which he was appointed informateur

Cooper's anger is based on the sweeping accusations Martha makes in his letter. GIK would have been the only party fully qualified to be selected. The Prime Minister and Minister Cooper have eliminated GIK.

According to Suzanne Römer of the extra-parliamentary party PIN, the far-reaching accusations must be substantiated by GIK for the benefit of Parliament. “They undermine the rule of law of Curaçao,” said Römer. The government must then take its responsibility in a public meeting.
