WILLEMSTAD - A confidential document containing personal data of social assistance recipients was mistakenly shared with the members of the Curaçao Parliament during the budget debate for the Ministry of Social Development, Labour, and Welfare (SOAW). Minister of SOAW, Javier Silvania (MFK), made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Minister Silvania, the error occurred due to high work pressure and fatigue during the intense budget discussions. As a result, the file containing sensitive data was inadvertently forwarded to the Parliamentary Secretariat, which then distributed it to all members of the Parliament.
"This is a human and unfortunate mistake, made without any ill intent," Silvania stated. The minister expressed his deep regret over the incident and apologized to all those affected.
Silvania also confirmed that he has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the error and intends to implement stricter protocols and control mechanisms to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
"As minister, I take full responsibility and will ensure that enhanced measures are followed," Silvania added.
