WILLEMSTAD - Aqualectra has been working tirelessly for several weeks to ensure that both downtown Willemstad and various traffic roundabouts are beautifully decorated and illuminated for the Christmas and year-end festivities. These decorations have brought light and joy to the community, fostering unity and creating a festive atmosphere across Curaçao.
Unfortunately, the organization regrets to report that due to theft, the Christmas lights installed at the traffic roundabout near Zegu are no longer operational. Last Friday, December 6, Aqualectra discovered that all electrical cables at the roundabout had been stolen. As a result, the company has made the difficult decision to discontinue decorating the Zegu roundabout in future holiday seasons.
“It is deeply regrettable that the reckless actions of one or more individuals are now negatively impacting an entire community,” an Aqualectra spokesperson stated. The theft has not only caused financial and operational losses for Aqualectra but also deprived both residents and tourists of the joy these festive decorations bring to the area.
Aqualectra is calling on all citizens to unite in protecting and valuing the decorations that symbolize joy, unity, and community spirit. Each illuminated roundabout and street during this festive season represents shared pride and togetherness in Curaçao.
“We urge everyone to take a moment to appreciate the Christmas decorations and year-end lights. Even though they are temporary, they hold great significance for all of us. Together, we must shoulder the responsibility of preserving them,” the spokesperson added.
Aqualectra remains committed to spreading holiday cheer but emphasizes the importance of community support in safeguarding these cherished symbols of the season.
