WILLEMSTAD - The Urban Planning Service (ROP) informs that the building located at the corner of Keukenstraat and Sommeldijkstraat 8 in the area of Punda poses a danger to the residents of the street and everyone moving in its vicinity.

This building is privately owned, and the owners have received a letter from VVRP (Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning) to take appropriate measures. However, the owners did not comply with the government's instruction, and as a result, the condition of the building continued to deteriorate.
ROP experts conducted a thorough investigation of the building's condition and concluded that it cannot be restored anymore. As a consequence, it must be demolished to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
It is essential to emphasize that this building is not a protected monument. ROP will commission a contractor to dismantle it in a responsible manner. The streets concerned will be closed on the day when the dismantling work takes place. The date will be determined in collaboration with the traffic police and will be announced in due time.
Both residents and neighborhood organizations have reported the condition of this building to the government. As the government is ultimately responsible for the safety of its citizens, it is now acting responsibly within the framework of its legal duties and will appropriately charge the owners of this building for the dismantling work. Several appeals were made to them to do it themselves, but they were not successful.
ROP once again appeals to all building owners in our city center to ensure that their buildings are maintained in good condition to avoid accidents and inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists.
