BC.Game withdraws Curaçao license amid concerns over legal environment

Main news | By Correspondent December 6, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Cryptocurrency-based online gaming operator BC.Game has announced its decision to withdraw its Curaçao gaming license, citing what it described as an “increasingly hostile environment for operators” on the Dutch Caribbean island.

The company formally relinquished its Curaçao license on Thursday, December 5, emphasizing that the move will not impact its international operations.

In a public statement, BC.Game criticized Curaçao’s outdated legal framework, particularly the island's bankruptcy law, which dates back to 1931 under the “Curaçao Bankruptcy Decree.” The company claimed this legal system lacks adequate protections for gaming operators and is susceptible to exploitation by malicious actors.

The withdrawal comes in the wake of a court ruling declaring BC.Game’s operating companies, Blockdance BV and Small House BV, bankrupt.

Addressing recent speculation about its financial stability, the company reassured stakeholders and the public, stating, “Contrary to recent rumours inaccurately circulated questioning BC.Game’s financial position, BC.Game further reaffirms that its financial position remains in good health.”

The company also confirmed that its international operations are unaffected by the decision, and it remains committed to meeting all ongoing legal and financial obligations.

This development highlights growing tensions within Curaçao’s iGaming sector, as operators voice concerns about regulatory shortcomings and the need for legal modernization on the island.
