Aqualectra successfully restores power supply to a large part of Curaçao

Main news | By Press release July 27, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - After approximately 5 hours of intensive work, 90% of neighborhoods had their power restored by 6:30 PM on Thursday, July 27. Unfortunately, the neighborhoods connected to the Parasasa substation are the exception. Despite the challenges faced at the Parasasa substation, Aqualectra's primary focus was to restore power to neighborhoods as quickly as possible. Now that power has been restored to a large part of Curaçao, the necessary investigations will continue to determine the cause of the malfunction. Once a solution is found, power supply can resume from the Parasasa substation so that the remaining neighborhoods connected to this station can also receive electricity.

During the preceding months, Aqualectra has been diligently working to strengthen the distribution network. They began with the substations in neighborhoods before moving on to the larger substations. It is through these efforts that a blackout was successfully avoided. Maintenance of this scale is not solely dependent on local capacity to identify and address weak points but also relies on having the right specifications for cables and equipment necessary to perform the work. Despite all the challenges, Aqualectra remains committed to fortifying the protection of its distribution network and improving its services.

Aqualectra once again apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this situation.
