WILLEMSTAD - Following an internal evaluation conducted over the past months, Aqualectra has redirected its efforts to increase reliability and continue working on stable production and distribution of water and electricity. An independent entity conducted an investigation into the incidents of the two recent blackouts to take corrective actions and prevent such incidents in the future. Simultaneously, Aqualectra evaluated and adjusted its strategic plan for the coming year, placing more emphasis on actions necessary to enhance Aqualectra's production and distribution reliability. In the short term, significant investments are being made, including expediting overdue maintenance, increasing the reliability of facilities, and improving the power and water grid. For the long term, the management aims to implement necessary innovations and ensure the community a responsible energy transition and affordable water.
Direct Actions Taken by Aqualectra
Following the incidents that led to the two blackouts, Aqualectra's management team initiated an investigation by an independent international group of experts into both incidents. Based on preliminary results, actions were taken to strengthen the security system within Aqualectra's distribution network. The recent brown-out incident, which affected only parts of the network, demonstrates that the interventions made are yielding results and these efforts need to be responsibly continued. Soon, a campaign will be launched to raise awareness about water and electricity conservation. Additionally, Aqualectra will initiate closer contact with the community through neighborhood presence. Efforts to curb irregularities in the distribution network and combat water and electricity theft will also be intensified. Such theft not only affects those complying with Aqualectra's services but also has direct and indirect impacts on their payments. Lastly, Aqualectra will communicate more about its production and distribution, along with projects contributing to the energy transition.
