Main news | By Press release February 16, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Aqualectra and NuCapital Aspiravi have initiated construction works for five windmills that will be a significant contribution to Aqualectra's efforts towards reliability, affordability, and sustainability. Once operational and connected to Aqualecta Kòrsou's grid, these windmills are expected to provide a sustainable energy penetration of at least 50%. On this occasion, alongside Mr. Roy Kolader, Managing Director of NuCapital, and Mrs. Neysa Isenia, CFO of Aqualectra, words were delivered by the Minister responsible for Economic Development, Mr. Ruisandro Cijntje, and the Minister responsible for Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning, Mr. Charles Cooper. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas performed the symbolic act to commence the works.

The expansion with a windmill park in Koraal Tabak is part of Aqualectra's efforts towards a developed future, aligning with its mission to be a reliable and affordable company. This challenge becomes crucial considering our island's notable economic growth, climate change, and Aqualectra's commitment to our planet. With the realization of the Windmill Park in Koraal Tabak, it becomes possible to aim for at least 70% of energy generated from sustainable sources by 2030, making Curaçao a leader in the Kingdom. This also substantially contributes to lowering electricity prices, reducing fuel imports, decreasing gas emissions in the atmosphere, and improving our balance of payments.

The construction of the windmill park in Koraal Tabak is made possible thanks to the confidence and support of Nu Capital Aspiravi, our local banks, investors, the Government of Curaçao, and specifically, Ministers Cijntje and Cooper.
