WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday evening, January 23, 2BAYS organized an informative meeting in collaboration with representatives from Royal HaskoningDHV and the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN). During the session, the CEO of 2BAYS, Mr. Patrick Newton, and Senior Consultant from Royal HaskoningDHV, Mr. Rick Huizinga, delivered an extensive presentation to a group of approximately 50 attendees. They shared details about 2BAYS’ future plans and their submitted permit applications for operating facilities in Emmastad and Bullenbaai.

2BAYS explained their intention to continue existing activities and commence the first phase of operations, which includes a relatively small-scale refinery focused on asphalt production. Additionally, they have submitted a request for storage activities in Bullenbaai and blending operations in Emmastad. These initiatives aim to contribute to Curaçao's economic development. GMN also provided a presentation outlining the relevant conditions and procedures for granting the permits.

In the last quarter of 2024, 2BAYS submitted applications for permits to operate the facilities in Emmastad and Bullenbaai. These permits are a crucial part of 2BAYS’ future plans. The environmental impact has been thoroughly assessed. Given 2BAYS’ ambitions, the new environmental regulations, and the limited scope of activities, the environmental impact on the surrounding areas is expected to be minimal. The applications include environmental measures aligned with European and Dutch environmental standards.

The draft permits are expected to be published in March/April and will be open for public consultation at that time. This will provide an opportunity for comments and feedback.

This marks a significant step for 2BAYS in realizing its new plans to stimulate economic activity and contribute to a sustainable future for Curaçao. 2BAYS remains available for questions and feedback and looks back on the meeting positively, expressing confidence in the process moving forward.
