Update: Coronavirus in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - On Monday, March 23, the government will announce a package of measures for the economy in the fight against the coronavirus and its consequences for Curaçao. This was announced by Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath during the daily press conference today.

According to the Minister of Economic Development Giselle McWilliam, there will be a corona package with items needed to fight the virus. A maximum price is agreed for these products. The list of products will be announced soon to the wholesalers and retailers.

There are still three confirmed infections in Curaçao. One, a 68-year-old man, sadly passed away yesterday in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Curaçao’s leading epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth is going to meet with the general practitioners. He did not have time to do this in the last few days. He does point to their own duty of care and responsibility.

Dr. Gerstenbluth indicated that about 6o people have been tested since the Department of Health has started with COVID-19 testing. 67 people have been monitored up until now, including the 3 corona cases. 58 of them have all received their results. They have been monitored for the entire period of 14 days and they don’t have the symptoms. They are all in good health. 9 of them remain in isolation. 5 people are still pending to receive their results. Dr. Gerstenbluth says that some of these tests are not in yet or some of them are still in being tested. One of them was tested last night.
