Schotte is receiving ‘business visits’ in prison

WILLEMSTAD – The prison warden initially rejected the petition made by the political party MFK for their leader to receive ‘business visits’. The warden explained to the members of the party that the decision for their leader to receive these visits is not up to him but the Minister of Justice. But the Minister, in turn, indicated that it was up to the warden to decide whether this is allowed or not.

According to the MFK faction in parliament, the warden agreed to these visits. Therefore, Gerrit Schotte receives visits twice a week from the Members of Parliament of his party.

Even though the rules and regulations of parliament state that once an MP has been irrevocably convicted of an offense, they will lose their seat. This seat will then automatically go to the next person in line on the last election ballot of the party.

Schotte has contested this stating that he can continue leading his party and be a Member in Parliament while in prison. His case will be brought before a judge this coming Friday.
