Russian gambling company bankrupt but still in business in Curaçao

The world's largest online spot betting 1xBet is bankrupt and unreachable but still sponsors FC Barcelona

WILLEMSTAD - The Russian gambling company 1XBet has been declared bankrupt and has millions of debts. Yet it is still active from Curaçao.

1XBet owes millions of dollars in unpaid taxes and winnings according to a lawsuit filed against the controversial online gambling company.

The case against 1XBet has been brought in Curaçao by the Foundation Representation of Victims of Online Gaming (SBGOK), which represents a group of gamblers who claim not to have been paid.

A Curaçao court ruled against parent company 1XCorp for the first time last year. An appeal was rejected by a Curaçao court on May 6 and 1XBet was declared bankrupt in June, court documents show.

Lawyer Arend de Winter has been appointed to lead the bankruptcy proceedings, but court documents show that the gambling company refuses to cooperate.

"Questions are evaded and promises are not kept," de Winter wrote in the court documents. “The trustee cannot escape the impression that there has been willful resistance. Since the bankruptcy, 1XBet's betting sites have changed hands several times, with 1XCorp still being reported as an "operator" in all cases.

According to Arend de Winter, the only documentation he got from 1XBet was a single license agreement. The bankruptcy is limited to Curaçao, but due to the complicated corporate structure of 1XBet, according to the documents, the company does not even have a bank account on the island.
