WILLEMSTAD - The Kura Hulanda Hotel in Otrabanda has been sold to a local group of business owners.
Their aim is to keep the hotel open and, in the meantime, will invest in upgrading the unique complex with 85 rooms and suites.
The bankruptcy trustee of Hotel Kura Hulanda NV, Arend de Winter, confirms the signed purchase agreement; it has been submitted to the examining magistrate for the green light.
"But it looks good," says the bankruptcy trustee, who also speaks on behalf of the mortgage holders.
The group is formed by local business owners. These are the former owners of Wet 'n Wild and now of Bonita; the Zanzibar group; and the Infotrans/IT Group. The latter is the initiator and driver of this purchase, which will provide a solution for a striking part of the city center. All three groups have many years of knowledge and experience in hospitality and business and enjoy a good reputation.
In December 2018, Hotel Kura Hulanda (HKH) and Hotel Kura Hulanda Westpunt (HKHW), the owners/rightful claimants of most of the land and buildings of the resorts in Otrobanda and Westpunt, were declared bankrupt. The sale now only concerns Otrobanda, says the curator, who hopes this will inspire others to do the same with the hotel on Bándabou.
