Judge suspends detention notary Kleinmoedig

WILLEMSTAD - The detention of notary Johnny Kleinmoedig has been suspended with immediate effect after the judge's ruling. On September 10, Kleinmoedig was sentenced to eighteen months in prison for embezzlement and money laundering.

Lawyers Braam and Jansen submitted a request to the Court for the immediate release of Kleinmoedig. "We have experienced the session with the Public Prosecution Service (OM) and the judge as very pleasant," Braam indicated. The Court agreed to the lawyers' request.

The notary is accused of transferring amounts of money from the escrow account without legal basis to his private account.

The amounts deposited into the escrow account were amounts from clients of the notary's office. According to the notary himself, it was money that no longer had a destination. However, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) indicates that the money should have been returned to the rightful owners.

Kleinmoedig reported to Sentro Di Detenshon I Korekshon Korsou (SDKK) prison for his prison term on September 14.
