WILLEMSTAD - Chester Peterson, in charge of forming a new government, is in favor of taking the formation process and the direction of it out of the hands of the governor in the future. "The formation is pre-eminently a political process, in which politicians must get involved and not non-politicians," says Peterson.
Peterson also indicated that there is a desire to amend the existing strict screening law for candidate ministers. This is also formulated in the 2021-2025 Coalition Agreement of MFK and PNP, but that is also the firm opinion of the formateur. Peterson, who visited the governor last week Friday, said he did not discuss this subject with Governor Lucille George-Wout.
“She is not a politician. I don't talk to her about political matters. I am not talking to the governor about the screening act, but I am talking to Pisas.”
As the leader of MFK - the big winner of the elections two months ago - Gilmar Pisas is the intended new prime minister of Curaçao. However, we still have to wait for the outcome of the screening of candidates for a ministerial post. The formateur points out that in the Netherlands the formation has also been taken out of the hands of the King for several years and is now an issue that is being controlled by the parliament; in other words, by elected politicians. Peterson also wants that for Curaçao.
