Finance Minister Javier Silvania Resigns Amid Tax Office Dispute, Returns to Parliament

WILLEMSTAD - The resignation of Finance Minister Javier Silvania appears to be closely tied to the ongoing conflict within the Tax Office and the investigation into Receiver Alfonso Trona. By returning to Parliament, Silvania remains politically active but distances himself from direct responsibility within the Pisas government.

Silvania submitted his resignation to Governor Lucille George-Wout earlier today. At the same time, MFK Member of Parliament Tyron Boekhoudt vacated his seat, allowing Silvania to return to the legislature. The minister confirmed his departure but declined to comment further.

Tensions within the Council of Ministers over the handling of the Tax Office issue had been simmering for some time. Silvania reportedly pushed for decisive action and the dismissal of senior civil servants involved, but failed to secure support from the rest of the government. His resignation now appears to be the direct result of that internal deadlock.

By reclaiming his parliamentary seat, Silvania retains political influence and can continue to monitor the Trona case from the legislature. However, his departure removes one of the government’s most visible and outspoken ministers, known for his firm stance on financial transparency and integrity.

It remains unclear how much support Silvania still commands within the ruling Movementu Futuro Korsou (MFK) party. With two MFK members in Parliament reportedly reconsidering their positions, political observers warn that the resignation could put the Pisas cabinet at risk of collapse.
