WILLEMSTAD – There is growing discontent within the district offices of the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) regarding the policies of the Head Police Department (HPD). In response, outgoing Minister of Justice Shalten Hato (MFK) has scheduled another round of talks with the unions that represent the police personnel.
At the heart of the issue is the Management Development (MD) program, a three-year training initiative designed to develop future leaders. However, according to the unions, the program is unlikely to succeed as long as dissatisfaction with the current HPD policies persists.
Unions such as NAPB, SAP, STraF, and Abvo have previously attempted to raise their concerns but were met with little response. Now, they are demanding that the problems at the district offices be addressed first. During the upcoming talks, Minister Hato is expected to receive an official complaints report that consolidates the grievances of the district offices.
The situation indicates a deep lack of trust in the leadership of the HPD, with many officers expressing frustration over the ongoing issues within the force.
