WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao tops the list of the number of people vaccinated in the past week. The number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered per 100 inhabitants in the week from April 14 to April 20 is 13.44 in Curaçao.
Second place is for San Marino with 12.87 vaccinations. Uruguay is in third place with 8.73 vaccines per 100 inhabitants in the past week, de Dutch newspaper Volkskrant reports.
It is striking that most European countries are lagging when it comes to the total vaccines administered per 100 inhabitants. The Netherlands is in 18th place with 4.53 vaccinations. In the top 25 this week are eleven European countries, this was only six last week.
Although the vaccines for Curaçao must come from the Netherlands, the reason given for the backlog is that the delivery of the vaccines is delayed. In total, according to the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, more than 4.5 million people in the Netherlands have been vaccinated.
