WILLEMSTAD - From May 17- 20th Curaçao and the development bank Korpodeko will be hosting Alide’s 52nd General Assembly. This assembly, where 200-350 participants (virtual included) are expected, was to be held in 2020 but was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic. This conference was held virtually during these past two years.
ALIDE is the Association of Latin American & Caribbean Development Banks; with his headquarter in Lima, Peru.
The members of ALIDE include 57 fellow member development banks in Latin American and the Caribbean and 16 associate members from all over the world. ALIDE was consummated in 1968 In the framework of a meeting promoted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington DC, thus on January 24th, 1968, ALIDE was launched by representatives of 36 development entities from 16 countries of the region.
The 2022 General assembly will open on May 17 with sessions dedicated exclusively to the Caribbean region with a Special Caribbean Seminar “Investment opportunities for building a resilient economy in the Caribbean and the cooperation between DFI’s of the Caribbean and Latin America”.
The main assembly, starting on May 18, will have as main topic:
Innovative Technologies and Digitalization to Boost Latin American and Caribbean Development
There are various sessions during the three and a half-day assembly, which will discuss Latin American and Caribbean’s economy and banking industry with international speakers of the regional and associate member’s institutions. Final preparations are made and we hope to confirm the names of the Keynote Speakers for the assembly in the coming weeks.
“This is great opportunity for Curaçao to showcase itself to the more than 200 banking executives from around the world on our dushi Kòrsou”, Chesron Isidora, Director of Korpodeko, the host and Curaçao development bank said. “This will be a very interesting and eye opining Assembly with many topics to be discussed. Curaçao could make good use from the perspective of the development institutions that will be part of the assembly.”
According to Edgardo Alvares, secretary general of ALIDE, Curaçao is a great spot to hold the conference with the Caribbean being an important part of the ALIDE goals to exchange knowledge and experience “Curaçao being a bilingual member is therefore the perfect Caribbean venue for our 52nd assembly” he said “We want to see our membership grow in the Caribbean and the importance of the region, Curaçao is therefore the perfect venue”.
