GUATEMALA CITY - Curaçao won big against the British Virgin Islands on Saturday evening (local time) in the qualification for the World Cup. The team of interim coach Patrick Kluivert was far too strong in Guatemala City with 8-0.

Kluivert temporarily takes the national football team of Curaçao under his wing, as Guus Hiddink is still recovering from the corona virus.

Due to the big win, Curaçao is still clear in the qualification for the World Cup in Qatar, just like Guatemala. On Tuesday, the two countries will compete against each other for a ticket for the next qualifying round. Curaçao needs a draw to continue. Both countries have nine points after three games, but Curaçao's goal difference is better.

The six group winners from the first round of the qualifying series of the Concacaf, the federation for countries from North and Central America and the Caribbean, will advance to the playoffs later this month. The three winners of these qualify for the third qualifying round, in which three tickets for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be distributed. The number four from that round can also qualify for the World Cup via an intercontinental play-off. Just like Curaçao, Suriname has a chance of a place in the play-offs, but Gorré's team must then beat Canada on Tuesday, which also has nine points and a better goal difference.
