Chester Peterson Appointed as Formateur for New Curaçao Cabinet

WILLEMSTAD – Chester Peterson has been officially appointed as the formateur tasked with leading the formation of Curaçao’s new government. Having successfully completed the mandatory screening process, Peterson will now begin consultations to identify potential candidates for ministerial posts.

This is not Peterson's first time serving in this role; he also acted as formateur during the formation of the Pisas Cabinet in 2021.

Peterson is expected to submit an interim report to the Governor no later than Tuesday, April 30, outlining the progress made in the cabinet formation process.

A Prominent Legal and Political Figure

Chester Peterson is one of Curaçao’s most prominent attorneys, well-known for his involvement in politically sensitive matters and his repeated role in shaping the island’s government. Beyond his legal career, Peterson has been actively engaged in various political and civil movements, including pressure groups like Korsou di Nos Tur and Tim di Reforma, both affiliated with the MFK party.

As a defense attorney, he played a central role in several high-profile criminal cases, such as the Bientu, Babel, and Diamond cases, which involved notable figures including Robbie dos Santos and former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte.

With his extensive legal and political experience, Peterson is seen as a key figure in navigating the complex dynamics of Curaçao’s next government formation.
