KINGSTON, WILLEMSTAD - History has been made. Curaçao has officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a nail-biting 0–0 draw against Jamaica in Kingston.

The final whistle came after 10 minutes of tense added time, confirming the island’s first-ever World Cup berth and triggering massive celebrations across Curaçao — from Waaigat to Barber, Montaña and Wishi/Marchena.

A match full of drama — and one decisive VAR call

The closing minutes were chaotic:

95’ Jamaica penalty — The referee pointed to the spot, but VAR overturned the decision, ruling no foul.

89’ Red card Jamaica — Russell received his second yellow, leaving the home team with 10 men.

87’ Jamaica almost scores — A close-range header went wide.

71’ Curaçao goal disallowed — A brilliant attack ended in the net, but the flag went up for offside.

70’ Jamaica hits the crossbar — Curaçao escaped another huge scare.

Despite waves of Jamaican pressure, Curaçao held firm, slowed the tempo, and defended with everything they had.

An island united in blue

On Curaçao, thousands gathered in public viewing areas. Schools, businesses, and government offices encouraged everyone to join the Blue Wave, dressing in blue to support the team. The anticipation reached fever pitch as the match unfolded.

A historic achievement

With the draw, Curaçao secures a place at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada — a first in the nation’s football history.

Celebrations are expected to continue late into the night, with an official victory motorcade and tribute for the players and staff already planned for Wednesday.

Curaçao is going to the World Cup — a moment the island will never forget.
