Aruba: OM suspects government party POR in Aruba of embezzling community funds

ORANJESTAD - Government party POR is suspected of misappropriating public money. Before the money could be diverted, the Public Prosecution seized the bank account of the party of which Minister of Justice Andin Bikker is the leader.

The Public Prosecution Service's actions were prompted by a report of an unusual transaction to the FIU-Aruba (Financial Intelligence Unit) (a so-called MOT report). These are alleged irregularities concerning the management of funds in a bank account of a foundation of the faction of the POR in the parliament of Aruba.

On behalf of the Attorney General, the report was further investigated by the Aruba National Investigation Service. On this basis, the suspicion of embezzlement arose. "Because the money in this account is community money and the Public Prosecution Service wants to prevent the money from disappearing in one way or another, for that reason this week some accounts have been seized that have come into the picture during the investigation so far," according to the OM.

The criminal investigation department will conduct further investigation and, in the meantime, the Public Prosecution Service will not make any other statements about the content of their work. The persons involved have been designated as suspicious. Former POR minister Oduber had already come under suspicion. Another minister of the POR Marisol Lopez-Tromp was fired last year because she complained about abuses at some ministries.
