WILLEMSTAD – Independent Member of Parliament Zita Jesus-Leito has highlighted the critical need for consistent and ethical governance in Curaçao to achieve national progress. She stated, "My mission is to continue contributing to a government that prioritizes the well-being of our children and grandchildren." Based on this mission, Jesus-Leito has chosen to support the current administration to address the country's pressing issues effectively.
As part of this effort, the government has incorporated Jesus-Leito's additional demands into its Governance Program. These initiatives are aimed at fostering economic growth and improving social welfare, serving as a guide for the remainder of the current administration and potentially the next one.
Since August 2024, Jesus-Leito and her team have implemented several concrete and important measures in collaboration with Minister Cooper, who heads the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO). "We will soon share detailed results of our achievements and plans for the future," Jesus-Leito remarked.
The candidate nominated by Jesus-Leito for the ministerial post at MEO recently withdrew due to personal reasons. Given the upcoming elections, she has decided not to nominate a new candidate. Jesus-Leito explained, "At this stage, it is more important for us to work efficiently, strategically, and focus on our priorities." Despite challenges, she remains committed to achieving the goals outlined in the Governance Program alongside her team at MEO and Parliament.
Jesus-Leito also confirmed that she has not registered as a candidate for any party's electoral list in the upcoming elections. Explaining her decision, she said, "Starting my own political party within a short timeframe was not a viable option, and I made a conscious choice not to run on any other list." Her focus remains on successfully completing her current parliamentary term.
"After this term, I will continue to contribute in one way or another to ensure that Curaçao has a consistent and ethical government dedicated to delivering tangible results for the benefit of our beloved island," Jesus-Leito emphasized.
Finally, she expressed gratitude to the community for their continued support. "The encouragement and positive reactions from so many people inspire me to remain actively involved in shaping the future of our country," she concluded.
