Youths in social development program receive their berets at Suffisant

Local | By Correspondent December 2, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Participants in the Sociaal Vormings Traject (SVT) "A New Beginning" at Marina Kazerne Suffisant were awarded their berets this week. The group, guided by the Ministry of Defense, began the program’s first phase on August 19, 2024. Over four months, they engaged in military-style training to develop discipline, self-respect, structure, resilience, confidence, and a sense of responsibility.

On November 28, 2024, eight young women successfully earned their berets and received certificates during a brief ceremony attended by all involved parties.

Moving to the Next Phase

The eight participants are now set to enter the second phase of the program, the Leerwerktraject (LWT), or Learning and Work Trajectory. During this phase, the youths will continue their preparation for employment tailored to their skills under the guidance of GwenInspires. Through these two phases, the Government of Curaçao and the Ministry of Defense aim to provide participants with a solid foundation for a better future.

Program Collaboration

This initiative is part of agreements between Curaçao and the Netherlands within the framework of the reform measures under the Landspakket. Falling under the "H18" theme, the program is officially designated as the Social Development Program (Sociaal Vormings Traject). It is a collaborative effort between the Ministries of Justice, Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW), Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (OWCS), and Defense.

A new group, composed of young men, will begin in March 2025. Spaces are still available for interested participants. If you are between 18 and 24 years old, you can request more information via WhatsApp at +599 9 563 6626.
