Youth Team from Fuik Wins ANG 1,000 for Community Work in ‘From Street to Stadium’ Project

WILLEMSTAD – The Fuik neighborhood team has been awarded a prize of ANG 1,000 for their outstanding participation in the social development initiative Van Straat naar Stadion ("From Street to Stadium"). The youth received the cash prize in recognition of their community efforts, which included cleaning and maintaining the neighborhood grounds and preparing meals for local residents.

“The kids did an amazing job,” said project founder Remko Bicentini. “They took responsibility for their environment, worked together, and supported one another.” The Fuik youth team is now free to use the prize money to organize a new activity for their neighborhood.

The From Street to Stadium project is an initiative by Fundashon Bicentini, aimed at promoting youth engagement, sports, and social responsibility. The foundation is currently preparing the second edition of the project and is in discussions with several other neighborhoods across Curaçao to join the next round.

New Phase: Train-the-Trainer Program

As part of the project’s expansion, a new “train-the-trainer” program is being launched. Under the guidance of Bicentini, local street coaches will be trained to mentor children in their own communities. Project ambassador Sharetsy Dometilia has also developed new social themes that will soon be introduced into the program.

“The project has to belong to the kids themselves,” said Bicentini. “They need to have goals, something to strive for—a vision of a better future.” From Street to Stadium is designed not only to encourage young people to engage in sports and healthy living but also to foster their sense of responsibility within their families, schools, sports clubs, and neighborhoods.

Bicentini emphasized that the project is especially valuable for families with limited financial means: “For these children, sports are not just about physical activity—it’s about finding direction, building self-confidence, and learning accountability.”

The initiative continues to gain momentum as it nurtures a new generation of socially conscious and community-driven youth on Curaçao.
