WILLEMSTAD - Young residents of the Curaçao Youth Detention Center (JJIC), formerly known as GOG, are contributing to a cleaner Curaçao through active participation in recycling initiatives. In collaboration with the Green & Clean Curaçao Foundation (GCCN), the youth collect plastic and aluminum waste both within the facility and in their local neighborhoods, depositing it in special recycling containers provided by GCCN.

The Green & Clean Curaçao Foundation, recently recognized for its efforts during World Clean Up Day 2024, has equipped JJIC with dedicated containers for plastic and aluminum recycling. GCCN collects the contents of these containers on a weekly basis, ensuring a consistent contribution to the island’s recycling efforts.
Promoting Environmental Awareness
Through this initiative, JJIC and GCCN aim to raise awareness about waste management and recycling among young people. They emphasize the importance of the "Refuse-Reduce-Reuse-Recycle" approach. The project's goal is not only to achieve a cleaner Curaçao but also to foster a sense of environmental responsibility, encouraging better care for the island’s ecosystem, nature, and oceans.
By engaging youth in these activities, the program helps build a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship, paving the way for a greener future in Curaçao.
