WILLEMSTAD – A violent altercation between groups of youths on John de Poolstraat escalated on Monday night, resulting in multiple injuries, the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) announced on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 9:18 PM, with the groups engaging in a brawl using weapons such as machetes, stones, and sticks. The injured were rushed to the Curaçao Medical Center for urgent medical care.
Police intervened swiftly, arresting seven individuals aged between 15 and 18. Among the detained were both Curaçaoan youths and an 18-year-old Dutch national. Weapons, including a machete, were confiscated during the investigation.
According to authorities, the confrontation stemmed from a dispute that escalated into physical violence. The suspects were presented before the prosecutor, with two individuals remaining in custody for further investigation, while the others were temporarily released.
The police continue to investigate the incident to prevent further escalation and ensure public safety in the area.
