Will Curaçao finally get a good animal legislation through a Dutch foundation?

WILLEMSTAD - If it is up to Stichting Dierenhulp (Animal Care Foundation), it certainly will happen. This organization consisting of volunteers with a big heart for animals has worked for years on legislation that should better protect these animals against numerous abuses. Five years ago, the legislation was presented and now Minister Giselle McWilliam of Economic Development is going to submit it to the Parliament of Curacao.

“There was a lot of fighting with the then faction of PAIS and legislation lawyer Mrs. Natalie Samson Coffie because we believe that these animals living in our kingdom deserve to be better protected by law. After all, it is impossible to sell that these animals do not have to rely on any support from the government in The Hague. Indigestible for us and the motivation for us to get this done by law,” says initiator Mark Vos of the Animal Care Foundation.

The Animal Care Foundation was founded in 1996 from a promise to a deceased former stray dog. On her grave, Vos made the promise to work for the weakest in our society. Now 24 years later the organization, consisting entirely of volunteers, is active in the Antilles, Greece and Costa Rica. The foundation has managed to connect a number of top ambassadors who endorse volunteering. Top model Kim Feenstra, actress Kimberley Klaver, TV personality Carlo Boszhard, singer actress Joke Bruijs, are a few Dutch celebrities who promote and encourage volunteer work and support the objectives of combating animal suffering.
