WILLEMSTAD - A technical issue with one of the machines on Dokweg caused a significant power outage on Monday evening, affecting multiple neighborhoods across Curaçao. Aqualectra, the utility company, announced the outage in a statement released around 11:00 PM.

Initially, Aqualectra reported that the neighborhoods of Montaña, Nijlweg, Weis, Kas Chikitu, Irlaanweg, Seru Molina, and Roosendal were without electricity. However, by around 11:30 PM, it became apparent that the outage had spread to additional areas.

The expanded list of affected neighborhoods included Koraal Specht, Dominguito, Marie Pampoen, Vredenberg, Salina, and Santa Rosa. Parts of Santa Maria and Buena Vista, Kanga, Dein, Kwartje, Marchena, sections of Seru Loraweg, and parts of Amerikanenkamp also experienced power loss. Aqualectra did not provide information on other affected areas.

The outage prompted numerous complaints on social media, with many residents expressing frustration over being unable to sleep due to the heat and lack of electricity. In most areas, power was restored after approximately two hours.
