Widespread disruption hits Curaçao Users of Facebook and Instagram

Local | By Correspondent March 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Facebook and Instagram users in Curaçao encountered disruptions early in the afternoon, rendering many unable to access Meta's social media platforms. The issue seems to be part of a global outage affecting users worldwide.

As a consequence of the disruption, individuals attempting to open Instagram or Facebook found themselves automatically logged out of their accounts. On the social media platform X, numerous users expressed initial concerns, fearing their accounts had been unexpectedly deleted or compromised. Additionally, Meta's Threads app also faced operational challenges during this period.

Meta has not yet divulged the root cause of the problem. A spokesperson from the company, in an official statement, reassured users that all affected accounts are undergoing a restoration process.

The disruption persisted for an approximate duration of two hours, causing a temporary halt in the normal functioning of these popular social media platforms for Curaçao residents. Investigations into the cause of the global outage are ongoing. Users are encouraged to stay updated on official announcements from Meta regarding the incident.
