“When will Minister Silvania settle the debt with CMC?”

Local | By Correspondent March 13, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Concerns regarding work pressure on CMC staff have recently been highlighted. This apprehension was conveyed through a letter from the CBV union addressed to Minister of Health, Javier Silvania.

The CBV's concern primarily stems from "staff turnover and sick leave." According to CMC, the pressure from CBV has led to an environment of uncertainty among employees, fearing errors. Moreover, CMC believes this issue reflects a broader trend across the entire healthcare sector. CMC acknowledges the additional pressures on employees and identifies various contributing factors.

One significant factor is the scarcity of financial resources, resulting in a shortage of essential supplies for healthcare delivery. This situation heightens stress among staff, concerned about the availability of necessary resources.

Furthermore, the financial constraints hinder efforts to fill vacancies within the healthcare system. Despite the critical nature of these issues, including staff shortages and the provision of essential resources, they remain unresolved due to Minister Silvania's failure to comply with the court's ruling to pay CMC the outstanding 40 million guilders owed by the government.

Additionally, the looming effects of salary reductions, based on the LNT law, exacerbate the situation. Minister Silvania's public accusation against a nurse further compounds the sense of insecurity among staff members.

While these challenges persist, it is regrettable that there are no ongoing structural consultations between CMC and CBV, despite a proposal by Parliament Member Giselle Mc William of the MAN faction aimed at improving relations between the parties. Establishing such consultations would provide reassurance to CMC and its employees.

MAN-PIN urges CBV to engage in dialogue with CMC for the well-being of employees and healthcare services. Furthermore, there is an urgent call for Minister Silvania to fulfill the government's obligation to settle the debt owed to CMC.
