WILLEMSTAD – In a thrilling two-leg clash, neighborhood champions Weto and Rooi Santu left everything on the pitch in their fight for local glory and a chance to move closer to the title of overall period champion. What unfolded was a heroic showdown filled with emotion, grit, and pure football passion. 

The street football tournament Van Straat naar Stadion (From Street to Stadium), organized by Fundashon Bicentini, aims to promote street football in Curaçao's neighborhoods while fostering social connection and sportsmanship among youth. 

First Leg: Weto Strikes Early 

In the first encounter, Weto—champion of the first period—struck early on Rooi Santu’s home turf. The opener came in just the fifth minute after a brilliant solo effort by their striker. Despite Rooi Santu’s persistent attacks, they were dealt a second blow in the final minute of the game due to a defensive error. The match ended 0-2 in favor of Weto. 

Second Leg: Rooi Santu Fights Back 

Rooi Santu, however, refused to bow out quietly. In the return leg, they showed resilience and character, taking control from the kickoff and applying relentless pressure on Weto. Despite creating numerous scoring chances and displaying remarkable determination, they could not break through Weto’s solid defense. The match ended in a goalless draw—0-0—a result that didn’t fully reflect Rooi Santu’s efforts, but highlighted the mutual respect between both sides. 

“A Clash Like No Other” 

Organizer Remko Bicentini praised the matchup as “a clash like no other.” While Weto advanced on aggregate score, both teams walked off the field as moral victors. The fierce yet respectful rivalry will be remembered in local football circles as a showcase of what makes neighborhood football so special. 

The battle for the ultimate title—best of the three period champions—remains undecided. But one thing is certain: both Weto and Rooi Santu have earned their place in the history of Curaçao’s vibrant street football scene.
