WILLEMSTAD - This weekend saw a high number of accidents, leaving vehicles with significant material damage and at least five individuals transported to CMC for medical treatment.
In some cases, police presence was required, while in at least two instances, the fire department was called as there was a significant oil spill on the road that needed to be spread with sand.
On Roodeweg, a car was involved in an accident when it failed to stop while a convoy was passing and was hit on the side.
On Cas Coraweg, a driver lost control of their vehicle at one of the road bumps and overturned. The bumps there are often steep and can have dangerous descents, causing drivers to lose control if they do not reduce their speed.
Another accident occurred at the Juliana Bridge near Parera, where a bus lost control in a curve and overturned. Here too, there was significant material damage.
The most serious accident this weekend took place on the road where Mitsubishi Motors in Juan Domingo used to be. Two cars collided head-on, resulting in significant material damage and four injuries. There was also a large oil spill on the road. Ambulances transported the injured, and the fire department arrived to spread sand over the oil on the road.
A driver on Kaminda Willems J. Cratz swerved to avoid a hole, lost control, and crashed into a bush on a hill. A bulldozer was needed to retrieve the car from the bushes and place it on a crane. The driver was very shaken after the accident.
Yesterday, two vehicles collided at the entrance ramp to the Juliana Bridge. This incident appears to indicate failure to yield. One person was injured and had to be transported to CMC by ambulance.
