WILLEMSTAD - The police and fire department of Curaçao had a busy weekend with multiple incidents requiring their prompt response, ranging from vehicle fires to traffic accidents and a daring robbery.

In the Saliña neighborhood, at the location where Wimco used to be situated, residents were startled on Saturday afternoon by a car that spontaneously caught fire. The parked and unused car unexpectedly burst into flames, prompting the fire department to quickly extinguish the fire. The vehicle was mostly destroyed by the fire. The cause of this sudden ignition remains a mystery.

On the traffic front, an incident occurred where a motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and collided with the back of a car. The motorcyclist initially assured that he did not need medical assistance and would visit his general practitioner if necessary. However, while sitting in the forensic services vehicle, he began to feel unwell and lost consciousness. An ambulance was immediately called, transporting him to the emergency room of the CMC.

Another traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when a high-speed motorcyclist collided with a family car that was in the process of making a U-turn. The accident took place near the Sahara bakery in Weto.

The motorcyclist suffered severe injuries, including significant internal pain. An ambulance quickly took him to the hospital for further medical care. The traffic police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of this accident.

Finally, two women fell victim to a robbery on Kortijnweg in Otrabanda. Two men, one with a light complexion and one with a dark complexion, approached them from Brionweg, robbed them of their belongings, and took the car keys.

The police provided assistance to the shocked women and took measures to prevent the robbers from driving away with the car. After securing the vehicle, the women and their car were taken to the police station to file a report. The police have launched an investigation into this bold robbery.
