Week of Art 2024 in Curaçao schools

Local | By Correspondent March 7, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - This year, the 'National Week of Art in Schools' will take place from March 1 to 8. The program invites children and young people to participate in a series of workshops and visit local art galleries.

Throughout this week, schools will focus on all aspects of art, aiming to motivate students to discover and develop their artistic talents. The Culture and Sports sector, responsible for this project, has urged all schools to foster creativity and dedicate this week to the celebration of art.

Reasons cited in the decree include the contribution of art to a more comprehensive education and the healthy development of our children. It emphasizes that art is an essential and indispensable part of education, conducive to creative formation and development.

To promote the art week, the Culture and Sports sector collaborates with the "Open Studio Route" initiative organized by visual artist Avantia Damberg. This event, accessible to everyone, provides an enjoyable opportunity to get acquainted with local artists. Special arrangements are made for groups of children and young people to visit these studios and galleries, including transportation for schools close to the route.

Visual artist David Paulus, currently studying at the Fontys School of Arts in the Netherlands to become an art teacher, previously organized various workshops on the theme of abolition of slavery and art in schools. Students from institutions such as Kolegio Pierre Lauffer VSBO and Maria Immaculata Lyceum participated in these workshops, creating art with recyclable materials. This demonstrates that activating students' creativity doesn't require much.
