According to former Minister of Justice Vieira Ribeiro
WILLEMSTAD – 'Women make up a significant portion of the workforce, and their contributions are vital to the economy and society. Allowing violence against women to continue has far-reaching negative productivity and economic growth consequences that affect not only the individuals involved but also the broader community.'
This according to former Minister of Justice Norberto Vieira Ribeiro on the annual International Women's Day, March 8.
Vieira Ribeiro is nr. 15 on the list of the political party PAR for the coming election in Curaçao on March 21.
He continued to say that 'while it looks like the focus is on celebrating women for one day, organizing fun events, there are still too many cases of violence against women in our community.
Violence against women is a crime. And much has been said about this topic, but little is being said about the terrible impact of violence against working women, is awful influence on our economy.
A battered woman will not be able to focus on the job she is being paid for, no matter on which level of professionalism she is.
She also must sometimes, against her will, call in sick for either being made sick or for the shame that comes with being in such a non-desired situation.'
According to Ribeiro, an investigation must be done to know how much our economy suffers because of domestic violence.
'For a healthy community and a healthy economy we must be more aware of the indications of domestic violence and use all available tools to help and solve these situations', according to Norberto Vieira Ribeiro, who wishes every woman a happy Women's Day.
