WILLEMSTAD - The price per kilowatt-hour of electricity will decrease by over four cents next Friday. The new price will be around 62 cents. This announcement comes from the Bureau of Telecommunication and Post. Electricity has not been cheaper at any point earlier this year.
This price applies to the first 250 kilowatt-hours. Those consuming more will pay more per unit of electricity consumed. The next hundred kilowatt-hours will be nearly 73 cents, down from 77 cents. For those consuming even more, the cost will be around 77 cents per kilowatt-hour, a reduction of four cents.
The decline in electricity rates is a result of a rise in fuel prices used to generate energy, combined with a significantly lower corrective factor in July.
Water
Water costs will also decrease. From September 1st, around 8.75 guilders will be charged for one thousand liters of water. This amounts to about 38 cents cheaper per cubic meter for the first nine cubic meters. This price too is the lowest it has been this year.
Similar to electricity, water follows a progressive tariff system, where the next tier is priced at around 13.90 guilders. For those consuming more than twelve cubic meters but less than twenty, a charge of 15.84 guilders per 1000 liters of water for the excess consumption will apply. Those using even more water will be charged 17.80 guilders per cubic meter for the additional usage.
The decrease in water tariffs is the result of higher electricity costs for water production and a significantly lower corrective factor for July.
