WILLEMSTAD – The waiting list for assistive devices for the blind and visually impaired in Curaçao has been significantly shortened thanks to a financial contribution of 80,000 guilders to Fundashon Pro Bista. This amount will be used to purchase white canes, digital magnifiers, and speech output software.
The contribution stems from a cooperation agreement between Fundashon Pro Bista and the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature. According to the foundation’s director, Ms. Winklaar, this support is an important step toward enabling the blind and visually impaired to live independently. “Our goal is to equip this group of people as much as possible to function independently. The additional assistance being provided now directly contributes to that,” said Winklaar.
During a recent working visit to Fundashon Pro Bista, it became clear that there is a significant need for more assistive devices. The allocation of additional funds will allow much of the demand to be met, thereby improving accessibility for the blind and visually impaired in Curaçao.
