VVRP Participates in International Geographic Information System (GIS) Conference

WILLEMSTAD – On July 10, 2025, a delegation of 11 employees from the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning (VVRP) departed for San Diego to attend the annual Geographic Information System (GIS) User Conference, organized by ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute). The conference, which takes place from July 12 to 18, offers professionals from VVRP who use GIS the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills in several key areas:

The latest developments and innovations in ESRI's GIS technology;

Applications of ESRI GIS in other countries and governmental bodies;

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones in GIS systems;

Opportunities to strengthen and professionalize the use of GIS within VVRP.

Importance of VVRP’s Participation

Within the VVRP Ministry, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are playing an increasingly central role in management strategies, core processes, and decision-making. Many areas of governance—including land management, infrastructure, risk management, monitoring, urban planning, and logistics—depend heavily on geographic data. GIS allows for the efficient collection, analysis, and presentation of this data.

Upon returning to Curaçao, the VVRP delegation will operationalize a dedicated GIS platform for the ministry. This platform will serve as a knowledge-sharing and innovation network aimed at enhancing professional GIS expertise, promoting inter-organizational collaboration, and encouraging the development of new applications.

All these efforts are expected to contribute to a more effective and efficient operation of the VVRP Ministry.
