WILLEMSTAD - According to Bert Velthuizen, the director of the Vereniging voor Protestants Christelijk Onderwijs (VPCO), the association's schools are currently not adequate or safe enough for the installation of air conditioning units. In a letter to parents, Velthuizen explained that while the ultimate goal is to cool classrooms to a temperature between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, the current electricity infrastructure at most VPCO schools does not have the capacity to support air conditioners.
Even with the potential installation of solar panels, it remains unfeasible, the letter states. The required work varies from school to school, and in many cases, the existing wiring and piping infrastructure is not suitable to handle a higher electricity load.
