WILLEMSTAD - This afternoon, Vortex CSI will present their stance on the recent developments concerning the Isla refinery and the 30-year contract with Oryx. During the meeting at the Klup di Shell, they will explain why they believe this deal is a bad choice for Curaçao.
The announcement of the deal between Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK) and Oryx has caused a significant uproar. Both former and current employees of the Isla refinery feel misled. Others involved in the negotiations are also, according to Vortex CSI, bewildered about the refinery's future.
Vortex CSI emphasized that they had an alternative plan for a new refinery that would be owned by the people of Curaçao. During the presentation, they will explain what they had proposed to RdK and why their plan was better than the deal with Oryx. According to Vortex CSI, their refinery would have been a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.
The contract with Oryx was signed after two years of negotiations. However, Vortex CSI indicated that despite a confidentiality agreement with Oryx, they have not heard from RdK since the signing. They feel sidelined and believe that RdK has made a less favorable deal.
The representatives of Vortex CSI will also discuss the implications of the deal for the community and the economy of Curaçao. They argue that the current agreement is far removed from refining crude oil, which they consider crucial for the refinery's future.
They will also talk about the possibilities for the new refinery and the role of Bullenbaai in these plans.
