Volunteer Debt Assistance Boosts Employment and Productivity Among Caribbean Dutch

| By Correspondent March 3, 2026

THE HAGUE – The macroeconomic impact of the volunteer debt assistance alliance reached an estimated €44 million in direct contribution to the Dutch economy in 2024, rising to €163 million when indirect effects are included.

The report explains that reducing financial stress contributes to improved work performance and increased labor participation. Individuals who regain control over their finances are more likely to find employment, increase working hours, and become more productive.

For Caribbean Dutch residents facing income insecurity and administrative complexity, such support can be transformative. Lower stress levels reduce absenteeism and “presenteeism,” where employees are physically present but less productive due to financial worries.

The average total macroeconomic impact per person assisted is estimated at €2,900.
