Venezuelans Residing in Curaçao Stranded Due to Suspension of Charter Flights

CORO – Venezuelans residing in Curaçao who traveled to the state of Falcón during the December holidays via charter flights from Curaçao are unable to return due to the suspension of these flights. The suspension followed the closure of Venezuela's borders during the inauguration of President Nicolás Maduro on January 10.

Since the reopening of Venezuela's borders in April 2023, the Josefa Camejo International Airport, also known as Las Piedras, had only been receiving charter flights from Curaçao. Passengers who traveled to Falcón with return tickets are now unable to use them.

The airport has not provided any information regarding when the flights will resume. As a result, many passengers have been forced to travel to Caracas to book a commercial flight back to Curaçao, incurring additional costs. They must also request a refund from the airline for the canceled flights.

The border between Venezuela and Curaçao had been closed for four years, only reopening in April 2023, with charter flights operating due to the limited number of travelers. Since January 9, even these charter flights have been suspended. Currently, only domestic flights are departing from the Paraguaná Peninsula, despite the proximity to Aruba and Curaçao.
