Venezuelan Woman Without Legal Status Detained During Traffic Check on Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – A Venezuelan woman without valid residency status was arrested during a routine traffic control early Monday morning on Schottegatweg West. The arrest took place around 1:30 a.m., and according to a police statement issued later that day, the woman was unable to present valid immigration documents.

She was immediately transferred to the immigration authorities after being brought before a duty officer from the Admission and Expulsion Unit. Authorities have since placed her in immigration detention while arrangements are made for her deportation to Venezuela.

The police emphasized that such operations are part of the enforcement of the National Ordinance on Admission and Expulsion, which regulates immigration procedures on the island. No further details regarding the woman’s identity have been released.

Immigration enforcement remains a key focus for local authorities. Regular checks are conducted across Curaçao as part of the government's broader migration policy. According to official figures, hundreds of undocumented migrants, primarily from Venezuela, are currently residing on the island.
